What's still relevant

Sequencing the curriculum so that new learning builds on what learners already know.
Why knowing each learner's starting point, including any special educational needs, shapes the whole programme.
Stretching and challenging every learner, and showing the progress they make.
Why learners with SEND and disadvantaged learners should achieve as well as their peers.

What's out of date

The inspection framework. It introduces the 2019 Education Inspection Framework as new, with a quality of education judgement and four-point grades. Now: Ofsted's renewed framework has applied since November 2025: report cards with each area graded on a five-point scale, no overall grade, and inclusion graded in its own right.
The three I's. It presents intent, implementation and impact as the structure of the quality of education judgement. Now: The three I's come from older Ofsted guidance and are not a requirement of the renewed framework, though they remain a sound way to structure evidence.
How inspectors gather evidence. It explains the nominee's reduced role and the use of deep dives. Now: Inspectors now gather evidence mainly through professional conversation and joint inspection activity, often alongside leaders.
