The context

What does a best in class learner journey look like in the occupational sector?

PTS Training Academy is one of the UK’s leading specialist learning providers, with over 20 years’ experience in a range of different sectors including rail, health & social care, security and training.

Their mission is to deliver high quality tailored training solutions based on understanding the unique needs of each learner and business.

Every year they help hundreds of apprentices gain their qualifications and take the first steps on their journey to work.

Lewis, Assistant Director of Training and Commercial Services, wanted to know what “best in class” really looked like from a learner perspective. He set out to find a solution to help PTS to go from good to great.

The challenge

Historically, PTS had relied on self-disclosure to identify and support learners with additional needs.

Looking at the number of apprentices in programme with additional learning needs (ALN), Lewis saw they were below the national average. This gap in the numbers was surprising, given the higher than average need for the ALN support in the occupational sector.

PTS chose Cognassist as the tool to help them solve this problem and allow them to create a leading package of support for their learners.

The solution

Using Cognassist, Lewis & the PTS team can identify and evidence additional learning needs across their entire apprenticeship provision.

Apprentices take the Cognassist assessment during their first day of induction. If they identify as having an additional learning need, Lewis’ team can outline the support available for these learners straightaway and implement it consistently throughout their programme.

Our personalised learning journeys provide tailored learning strategies to PTS’ learners, based on their identified needs and programme level. Learners also receive ongoing one-to-one support from a dedicated team at PTS, giving them the best chance of achieving their qualifications.

Since implementing Cognassist, PTS has been able to access £1.4m of additional funding to support their learners from start to end-point assessment.

 

 

The outcomes

Cognassist gives PTS an accurate way to identify learners with additional needs, and evidence the support they give them. We’ve assessed over 2,000 learners at PTS in the last two years and every learner receives our digital cognitive assessment when they start their apprenticeship.

Personalised learner journeys give learners access to over 500 digestible media-rich resources, which provide useful tips and help them to understand how they think and learn.

As well as positive learner feedback, PTS has 95% engagement from their learners and increased attainment for their ALN learners, demonstrating the power of the platform.

By using Cognassist, PTS has been able to accurately evidence additional learning needs and the ongoing monthly support they offer their apprentices. This approach has enabled them to access £1.4m of additional funding to help their learners achieve their full potential.
